Qamar in the dock at the Makadara law courts.

A 19-year-old woman who lured a businessman into a trap before he was accosted by three men who violently robbed him of two mobile phones has been charged with the capital offence of robbery with violence.

Qamar Elmi Suleiman was charged with robbing Mohamed Amin Gulled of two mobile phones โ€“ worth Sh258, 000 in Pangani, Nairobi on August 6, jointly with others at large.

The prosecution accuses Qamar of threatening to use actual violence on the complainant during the alleged robbery which he committed jointly with others not before court while armed with a knife.

She denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Beatrice Kimemia of the Makadara law courts and was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 without an option of a cash bail.

The court ordered for a social inquiry by the department of probation and aftercare services to determine whether the suspect is eligible for release on cash bail terms and what would be suitable cash bail terms.

Gulled was hanging out in Pangani at around 3am when Qamar approached him requesting him to drop her home at an apartment in Eastleigh which he obliged since he had dropped her home a few days earlier. He had noticed that Qamar was in the company of three men at the time.

The accused person opened the co-driverโ€™s door and entered the car but the three men also forced their way into the back seat and started assaulting Gulled and one of them brandished a knife, threatening Gulled.

They forced him to drive to Section three in Eastleigh and ordered him to follow them to a house where Qamar opened for him. Once inside, Gulled was allegedly further assaulted and ordered to strip naked.

They suspects filmed Gulled while naked using Qamarโ€™s mobile phone and demanded for Sh100, 000 from him failure to which they would leak his nude video and photos to members of the public.

They had given him up to 3pm to comply with the orders to send the money to a mobile phone number they had shared with him before releasing him.

The complainant left the house and was helped by a Good Samaritan who drove him to Pangani police station where he reported the matter.

He went to a Nairobi Hospital where he was treated before returning to the station to assist the police in tracing Qamar who was arrested a few hours later.

Qamar who hails from Bula Sheikh location in Garissa, allegedly told the police that one of her accomplices is her boyfriend who she told cops wanted money for khat and she did help them trap Gulled not knowing the matter would reach the levels it got.

Her boyfriend is now being sought by the police together with the other two suspects to face similar charges. The case will be mentioned on August 27 before hearing starts on December 11, 2025.
