Two people died earlier today while three others sustained injuries in a grisly road accident along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway in Machakos county.

The accident, which was reported to Kyumbi police station as a fatal road traffic crash, involved three vehicles — two trailers and a pick-up.

The victims, occupants of two of the vehicles involved, died on the spot.

Athi River South Subcounty Police Commander David Kandie said the crash occurred at around 7.30am on Saturday at the Kapiti Plains area within Kyumbi traffic sub-base command.

According to police, the dead included one of the trailer drivers and a 25-year-old man who had been seated at the back of the pick-up.
