Six youngsters suspected to be members of teenage gangs terrorizing residents of Eastlands, Nairobi are facing charges of robbery with violence after raiding a womanโ€™s house in Njiru, Nairobi where they chased her away with her family before looting everything.

They are Michael Wanjiru, Peter Muema, Lucas Nganga and John Irungu who were charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 295 as read with section 296 (2) of the Penal Code at the Makadara law courts alongside two minors. The minorsโ€™ particulars (names) are withheld for legal reasons.

The suspects were charged with robbing Lucy Karanja of a Television set worth Sh15, 000, a gas cylinder, one gas cooker, household items, clothes and utensils.

The state prosecution office accuses the six of using actual violence on the complainant during the robbery on August 28 at 10pm.

Karanja was hacked on the face where she sustained a deep cut during the commotion inside her compound.

The suspects had broken in as a group and assaulted her together with her three children and chased them out before allegedly carrying out the robbery.

The accused persons broke Karanjaโ€™s iron sheets fence to gain entry where they forcefully evicted the family and carted away everything in a daring attack.

The two minors were charged with handling stolen property in contravention of section 322 (1) as read with section 322 (2) of the Penal Code after they were allegedly found with some of the items carted from Karanjaโ€™s home.

โ€œOn August 29, 2025, at 4am at Siranga Estate in Njiru Sub County, within Nairobi, otherwise in the course of stealing, dishonestly retained one student study desk and households having reason to believe it to be stolen goods,โ€ the charges against the two minors reads in part.

The other suspects are charged with possession of assorted plastic items which were damaged, kitchenware items, five blue gum poles having reason to believe them to have been stolen.

They are among the items stolen from Karanjaโ€™s house after she was evicted together with her family at around 10pm.

The suspects denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich and were released on a bond of Sh200, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh100, 000.

The 16-year-old boy whose mother availed a copy of his birth certificate was remanded at a Juvenile prison at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison while the 15-year-old returned to Mowlem police station to await age assessment to ascertain age before being committed to a correctional facility.

The case will be mentioned September 9 for an age assessment report for the 15 years old minor before the hearing dates are set.
