Police in Nyamira have launched a manhunt for 22-year-old Gideon Makori, who allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend, 20-year-old Faith Kemunto, and burying her in a shallow grave in Maosi village, Nyamaiya location.

Kemunto, who had been reported missing in July 2025, was found dead more than a month later after a chilling message was sent to her sister-in-lawโ€™s phone, allegedly by Makori, revealing her whereabouts.

The information turned out to be genuine, leading police to cordon off a section of the village road where homicide officers exhumed the remains of the young woman on Thursday, September 4, 2025, following a court order.

According to family members, Kemunto was last seen in June when she left home eating a mango and carrying her phone. Both she and Makori were set to join university this week before tragedy struck.

The suspect has since gone into hiding, and detectives are working around the clock to track him down. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.

Residents of Maosi village gathered in shock as the exhumation was carried out, with many expressing grief over the gruesome incident.

Police have urged anyone with information on the suspectโ€™s whereabouts to report to the nearest station immediately.
