Renowned comedian and activist Eric Omondi has opened up about the deep emotional turmoil he experienced following the tragic death of his brother, fellow comedian Fred Omondi. In a candid interview on the Mic Cheque podcast, Eric revealed that he has not fully healed from the loss, which happened so fast it left him in a state of disbelief.
Eric explained that when he first learned of the accident, he immediately suspected foul play. He recounted going to the hospital and accusing staff of killing his brother, unable to comprehend that it was a simple accident. His suspicions were fueled by the fact that his activism was at its peak, having visited Parliament several times just before his brother’s death.
Driven by his doubt, Eric began a desperate search for answers. He demanded to be taken to the scene of the crash and questioned the whereabouts of the motorcycle, a process he says was met with delays. He eventually found the boda boda at a police station and tracked down the driver of the minibus involved in the accident.
“I could not believe it because the coincidence was too much for me,” he said.
The truth of the matter began to sink in only after he learned that the boda boda rider was also being buried. This tragic detail finally convinced him that it had indeed been an accident, allowing him and his family to begin the difficult process of mourning and burying Fred.
