Nairobi: Business owners at Nanak House, a commercial building in Nairobi’s Central Business District, are calling for justice and protection following a series of attacks.

The tenants have accused the landlord of allegedly orchestrating the attacks.
They stated that they have operated the businesses at the Nanak house for more than 20 years.
They claimed things began to change in September 2024, when they allegedly faced intimidation, unlawful eviction attempts, and rent hikes from KSh 150,000 to KSh 600,000 per month, along with an excessive KSh 15 million ‘goodwill’ fee per tenant.

Some tenants and employees have shared their experiences, describing attacks that have left many injured and traumatised.

Another tenant claimed that the intimidation pointed to a deliberate move to push out tenants who have been operating in the building for years.
Workers have also been caught up in the chaos, fearing for their safety as goons target shops in broad daylight.
