Some of the residents who spoke at the meeting, including Elisha Khalai and Praxides Watiti, blamed some local politicians for protecting the robbers and appealed for the issuance of a shoot-to-kill order on all the suspects.

The youth also called on both the national government and the County Government of Trans Nzoia to roll out Kazi Mtaani to absorb and keep busy idle youths.

They also urged the government to transfer all police officers who have stayed in one police station for more than six months.

Although some politicians were invited, none of them attended the meeting.

The security meeting comes just days after TUKO.co.ke reported concerns raised by locals in Mitume slums over the emergence of criminal gangs in the area.

According to locals, the gangs were targeting them while they were returning from work.

They lamented that they had been forced to be in their homes early in fear for their lives. At least 30 locals had been injured within two days in attacks linked to the gangs.
