Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is mourning the death of his sister, Winnie Peninah Nyambura. The circumstances surrounding her passing have not been disclosed.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 5, Wamatangi confirmed her death and shared his grief over the loss.

“Death is cruel. It takes from us the people we love and cherish, leaving a hurting void. But we have to accept the will of God because it’s in him; we take comfort during such times,” he stated.

“Rest in eternal peace, my sister, Winnie Peninah Nyambura. As a family, we cherish the times God allowed us to be together. Go well, Winnie.”

After her death, President William Ruto sent his condolences to Wamatangi, expressing his wish for the Governor to find strength and comfort.

“May the Lord grant Governor Kimani Wamatangi strength to bear with the loss of his dear sister, Winnie Nyambura,” he expressed.

Adding “The family, friends, and the people of Kiambu are in our thoughts and prayers at this painful time. Rest In Peace, Winnie.”

Details about Nyambura remain scarce, though unverified reports indicate she was a businesswoman with ventures in Kiambu County.

Her death came shortly after another major loss in the region — the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, father to Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.

Ngugi, aged 105, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning at his home in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

President William Ruto led the nation in mourning, praising Ngugi as a hardworking and visionary businessman who played a pivotal role in establishing Kikuyu Town. He noted that Ngugi’s numerous initiatives had uplifted vulnerable groups and assured that his legacy would live on.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. Rest in Peace, Mzee,” Ruto wrote.

Ngugi’s passing was first made public by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, who announced the news on Thursday evening.

Other leaders, among them Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, also conveyed their condolences, offering comfort and solidarity to the Ichung’wah family.
