The Ministry of Health (MoH) has released a new report on the St Mary’s mission hospital Mumias, SHA disbursements that now stand at Ksh 92,992,340.00 M following the update for the August payments of Ksh 4,888,370.
The report also tabulates the payments made under the Primary Healthcare Fund of Ksh 5,791,500.
A further Kshs. 201,593.85 from the Public Officers Medical Fund Scheme (POMFS) has also been paid to the facility.
The Ministry now says the hospital has received a total of Ksh 98,985,433 for the period from November 2024 to August 2025 under the three vote heads.
The report indicates that the hospital received its disbursements through Cooperative Bank A/c 01120067164500 Mumias Branch with matching dates of each transaction.
The Ministry has made the report public saying it is available for scrutiny as the process of disbursing the SHA funds is progressive and continuous.
The reports shows that claims amounting to Ksh 10.2 M have been returned to the facility due to incompleteness and missing documents.
Additionally, claims estimated at Ksh 11.4 M have been rejected due to various reasons that the Ministry has said it will directly communicate to the health facility.
The Ministry in its report says the facility needs to address the various gaps raised and engage SHA on the way forward.
The report reads in part “Close to Kshs. 14.8 million received by the facility in July and August 2025 was reportedly used to settle staff salary arrears.”
“SHA will continue disbursing funds to the facility as and when the claims are reviewed and approved for payment. However, the facility may need to prioritize restocking to allow for reopening, even as it endeavors to clear the staff salaries.”
The report concludes that the Funds dispatched to St.Mary’s, Mumias compare favorably with those going to other Faith Based facilities of the same level and which are fairly stable and in operation.
On Thursday, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi called on the hospitals’ management to come out and tell the public the truth on what led to the closure of the facility.
Mudavadi who was setting the records straight on the MoH disbursements of SHA funds to the facility challenged the hospital management to dispute the facts if the payments were not actually made.
Mudavadi had cautioned about misappropriation and mismanagement by some individual hospitals and health facilities on their internal operations and castigated a section of politicians misleading the public on the real cause of why the St Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias was undergoing difficulties.
The Prime CS accused a number of health facilities of hiding crucial evidence on the SHA program in an attempt to hamper the smooth operationalization of the program.
On its part the Ministry of Health has further clarified that the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) is verifying the NHIF arrears for St Mary’s mission hospital following a court ruling and the dues will be paid once the records are cleaned up.
The government has maintained its position that the Social Health Authority ensures that every resident in Kenya can access a comprehensive range of quality health services they need without the burden of financial hardship.
