A section of Bungoma County Assembly Members allied to the Ford Kenya party have come out to lash at former Bungoma County Governor Wycliffe Wangamati over allegations that his predicaments stemming from involvement in graft have been fueled by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

Led by the majority leader in the County Assembly, Joseph Juma Nyongesa, the elected and nominated members said the former Governor should carry his own cross, adding that the EACC is doing its mandated duty of making sure public money is not misused by individuals.

Honorable Nyongesa said the agency started following up on the misuse of funds in Bungoma in 2021 when Honorable Wetangula was the senator of Bungoma, saying it is dishonest for the former Governor to allege his involvement now.

He disclosed that the graft agency has laid bare the names of the directors of the companies that were in charge of tenders across the county and it is shocking that the majority are his family members, yet he is shifting blame to others.

His sentiments were echoed by Musikoma Ward MCA George Makari, who said that it is perplexing to hear the former Governor allege such a thing, especially since Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok was also implicated in graft. He added that if the former governor is innocent, then the court will exonerate him.

Honorable Makari divulged that several projects in Bungoma County during the former Governorโ€™s regime need to be investigated, including the dual carriage way and the scholarship program, saying there is more than meets the eye.

Lwandanyi Ward MCA Tony Barasa said the officers in charge of the anti-graft agency are well-trained to perform their duties and should not be dragged into unwarranted allegations. He called upon the former Governor to stop the blame game.

Milima Ward MCA Jerusa Aleu Sikuku said it is disrespectful for the former Governor to hold on to his unsubstantiated claims of a witch hunt, saying he must carry his own cross.
