Former Bungoma Governorย Wycliffe Wafula Wangamatiย has issued a strong statement ahead of his planned arraignment, dismissing corruption charges against him asย โpolitically motivated, malicious, and frivolous.โ

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recently recommended the prosecution of Wangamati and several of his family members, including his late brother, over alleged graft-related offenses. However, the former governor has denounced the charges, describing them as aย โpolitical pamphlet dressed up as prosecution.โ
โThese allegations are irredeemably bogus and devoid of any factual or legal merit,โ Wangamati declared. โThey are a smear campaign designed to tarnish my candidature and pave the way for a political heir, a โProjectโ imported from Nairobi.โ
Wangamati confirmed that he will appear before theย Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)ย at Integrity Centre onย Monday at 8:00 am.
โThis is neither an act of submission nor cowardice, but one of principle,โ he said. โInnocence does not cower before scrutiny.โ
He vowed to defend his name, character, and integrity both in court and in the public arena, adding that the charges willย โcollapse under the weight of their own fabrications and contradictions.โ
The former governor alleged that the charges were part of a broader scheme to sideline him politically and entrench a rival familyโs dominance in Bungoma.
โWe must rescue Bungoma from the stranglehold of one man who presumes to treat our county as his personal estate and inheritance,โ Wangamati said.
He urged his supporters to remain calm but vigilant, asking for prayers and moral support as he begins what he described as a fight for justice and truth.
Despite the looming legal battle, Wangamati exuded confidence that both the courts of law and the court of public opinion will vindicate him.
โIn the fullness of time when the centre can no longer hold we shall triumph over evil and malevolence,โ he concluded.
