Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has defended his decision to work with President William Ruto, saying it is motivated by the need to preserve national unity and prevent Kenya from descending into chaos.

Speaking during the burial of former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel, Raila stressed that the nationโ€™s prosperity hinges on both leaders and citizens embracing unity rather than division.

โ€œWe need to have one united Kenya. If Kenya falls apart, we will go down the path of failed states. And if that happens, we will have no country. That is why I made the decision to apply brakes,โ€ Raila said.

He dismissed assertions that his new political stance represents a departure from his long-held principles, insisting that his commitment to fighting for justice and equality for all Kenyans remains firm.

โ€œMy stance on justice for all Kenyans has not changed. I want Kenya to rise from the bottom to the top. Kenya can only rise if Kenyans are united. However, if we continue to propagate tribal politics, we will not have a united Kenya,โ€ he added.

The ODM leader maintained that his cooperation with President Ruto does not compromise his values but rather reflects his belief that national stability must take precedence over divisive politics.
