TV Broadcasters have been instructed to avoid showing any protests or reactions to President Donald Trump during Sunday’s US Open men’s singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

The President will make his first appearance at the tournament since 2015, when he was met with boos from the largely Democrat-leaning New York crowd.

According to an email sent by the United States Tennis Association, Trump will appear on the World Feed and Ashe Court Feed during the opening anthem ceremony.

Broadcasters have been asked to refrain from highlighting any disruptions or audience reactions to his presence.

Reports suggest that Trump has not been invited by the tournament itself but will attend as a guest of a sponsor, believed to be Rolex.

The decision to limit coverage of audience reactions is not unprecedented. Earlier this year, boos directed at Trump during his appearance at the Super Bowl were reportedly edited out of live Fox broadcasts.

Despite these measures, mobile phone footage from fans in the stadium is likely to reveal audience sentiment during the final.

Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, who will face Sinner in the final, acknowledged Trump’s planned attendance but insisted he would not let it affect his performance.

Alcaraz described it as a privilege for the tournament to host a sitting president and said he would focus on the match rather than the political implications of the audience or the President’s presence.

Trump has increasingly incorporated sporting events into his schedule since returning to the presidency.

In addition to the US Open, he is expected at Yankee Stadium on September 11 for the playoff match against the Detroit Tigers and will attend the first day of the Ryder Cup later in the month at Bethpage in New York.

His appearances follow a high-profile visit to the Club World Cup final in July, where he presented the trophy to Chelsea.
