Staff at Nakuruโ€™s PGH Annex facility on Thursday September 4, 2025 held a candle-lighting event in honor of fallen nurse Carren Ombewa.

Sombre mood engulfed the facilityโ€™s ground where the ceremony was held as colleagues of departed Carren recalled their last moments with the departed soul.

The candle-lighting ceremony was led by Nakuru County CECM for Health Roslyne Mungai.

Speaking during the event, CECM Mungai acknowledged the teamwork seen at Annex since demise of Carren.

She eulogized Carren as a staff who was dedicated to her work.

The CECM called on all medical staff to emulate Carren and do their best in service to the people.

โ€œI have sat with her and I know her journey throughout her professionalism. I reiterate that we need to do the best that we can and bloom where we can,โ€ she said.

She termed Carren as more than a colleague, who worked to uplift many even in moments of chaos.

According to CECM Mungai, the late Carren valued patients at her place of work and did all she could to ensure all is well.

The CECM represented Governor Susan Kihika at the event and relayed her message of acknowledging the work done by all medical managers in Nakuru County.

โ€œGovernor Kihika has send me with a personal message of condolence accompanied by Kshs 200,000 to stand with the family,โ€ she stated.

Gladys Kariuki(Deputy Chief Nurse at PGH Annex) who spoke during the event eulogized Carren as a colleague who really advocated for patients at the facility.

โ€œThe only way we can honor Carren is by doing the right things and remain committed as she did,โ€ she stated.

Kenya Progressive Nurses Association, East Central Southern College of Nurses representatives were also in attendance, and called for need to ensure professional colleges for nurses.

These are Associations that Careen once worked with as Professional Clinical Nurse.

Wendy Cherop who is chair Nurses at the Nakuru PGH Annex encouraged the medical fraternity at Annex Facility to do the best in whatever capacity God has placed them as Carren did.

The Candle-lighting session was led by nurses who also did the Nightingale pledge.

Earlier, there was a requiem mass for late Nurse Carren led by Father Kinuthia assisted by Father Ngaruiya and Father Nick from Holy Trinity.

Nakuru Town West MP Samwel Arama was also represented through PA John Koech who relayed Aramaโ€™s condolences.

It should be noted that MP Arama also provided a 62- bus seater to transport mourners to the burial in Kisumu County, as well as financial support to the family.

Burial will take place in in Kibos, Kisumu County on Saturday.
