Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has lauded National Youth Service(NYS) institution for the role played during Mai Mahiu floods.

Kihika who spoke on Thursday August 28, during NYS recruits pass out parade in Gilgil, commended the NYS for their bravery during last yearโ€™s Mai Mahiu floods.

She at the same time called for deeper collaboration in various community projects.

โ€œI commend the NYS for their bravery during last yearโ€™s Mai Mahiu floods. Thereย  is need for deeper collaboration in projects such as borehole drilling, drainage works, and feeder road upgrades, which are critical for our development,โ€ she stated.

Kihika had earlier welcomed President William Ruto at the 89th pass-out parade of the National Youth Service at the Gilgil Paramilitary Academy, where 18,145 recruitsย  the largest cohort in history graduated.

โ€œAs the host county, we take immense pride in this vital institution that imparts young people with skills, discipline, and values,โ€ she said.

Governor Kihika appealed for a higher recruitment quota for Nakuru and called for stronger partnerships between the NYS and Nakuru County Vocational Training Centres to broaden opportunities for youth.

She at the same time welcomed the Presidentโ€™s announcement that NYS will continue leading the Climate Works Mtaani program, which is generating thousands of green jobs, along with the Kandarasi Mtaani initiative that will create over 200,000 opportunities nationwide.

Kihika used the moment to wish the graduates well in their endeavors.

โ€œTo the graduates, uphold the values of hard work, courage, and patriotism,โ€ she said.

The event was also graced by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku, NYS Commandant General James Tembur, and MPs Martha Wangari (Gilgil), David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East), Eric Wamumbi (Mathira), among other officials.
