Police officers in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county have launched investigations into an incident where a pistol belonging to a bodyguard attached to Moiben Member of Parliament Phyllis Bartoo disappeared.

The firearm, a Beretta pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, reportedly went missing while the officer was enjoying a night out at a popular entertainment joint in Eldoret city.

According to preliminary reports from the police, Corporal Silas Kiptoo, the officer in question, visited Timba XO Club on the night of Friday, September 5, in the company of a friend.

The two are said to have spent time drinking and socialising at the establishment. However, the officer later discovered that his pistol was missing.

Kiptoo told investigators that he only realised the weapon had disappeared while still at the club, triggering alarm and immediate concern from law enforcement agencies.

The officer has since been arrested as the search for the missing firearm continues.

Uasin Gishu county police commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the arrest of the officer, noting that appropriate legal steps are being taken.

Mwanthi said the officer was being held at Sugunanga Police Station as investigations into the circumstances under which the pistol, which was under his care, went missing continue.

The incident has stirred concern among residents who have pointed out the risks associated with missing firearms.

However, the police commander assured members of the public that every effort is being made to recover the weapon and ensure accountability in the matter.

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a high school student had been killed in Kapsoya estate on the outskirts of Eldoret city after a wrestling match turned violent.

The incident is said to have involved refugees who live within the estate that hosts a large number of Sudanese nationals.

A manhunt had been launched for the attacker who fled immedialty after committing the heinous act.

In another incident, illicit goods worth over KSh 46 million had been seized following a multi-agency operation conducted in Kirinyaga and Uasin Gishu counties.

The operation was led by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials, who said it helped avert over KSh 19 million in tax evasion.

Among the illicit items seized were contraband cigarettes, counterfeit excise stamps, and bottles of unbranded and branded alcohol.
