Eight comprehensive and primary schools have benefitted from two classrooms, each from the National Government Constituency Development Fund Teso North Constituency co-funded by NG CDF Teso North and Ministry of Education.
Teso North Member of Parliament Dr. Oku Kaunya rolled out the commissioning of the classrooms last Tuesday at Kisiombe Comprehensive school in Changara location and later on the same day at Kakurikit Comprehensive and Primary School in Angurai location.
On Monday, Dr.Kaunya took the program to Kasogol Kapel in Kocholia location and later commissioned two more classrooms at Amagoro Comprehensive and Primary School in Amagoro location.
On Tuesday, September 9, the MP will commission two classrooms at Akiriamasit Primary School with two more classrooms to be commissioned at Arthur Odera in Osajai Location.
On Wednesday, Oku will commission two more classrooms at Akibui in Kakapel location and Arthur Odera in Osajai Location.
โ Itโs unfortunate the CDF fund is facing extinction. As MPs, we passed the bill to retain it, and we are optimistic the senate will too back us in pushing for the retention of the CDF. Wananchi should judge them harshly if they dismiss the national assembly proposal,โ he said.
Dr. Oku said,โ Apart from Kasogol Kapel, Akudiet, and Kalalaram in Malaba South Ward, Koteko and Kokare received a funding of.Ksh1m each to undertake renovation exercise.โ
The MP said that they are considering factoring more funds in the budget to add more classrooms through the support of the Ministry of Education to benefit schools and better performance of learning institutions.
Amagoro Comprehensive School is set to receive a school bus, a storeyed building, or both courtesy of NG CDF Teso North Constituency.
Oku, who commissioned a two classroom building, was put in a catch-22 situation when learners were unanimous that their priority is a school bus while parents were also unanimous that their priority is a storeyed building which they said will boost the image of the school.
At Amagoro Comprehensive School, the MP said they have constructed a laboratory at St Teresa Secondary School in Malaba with six more labs set to be constructed at various schools within the constituency.
โ We will ensure schools without classrooms will also receive due consideration, and children are fed. Grow somebody, feed him, letโs help each other in offering good education to our children and instil them with discipline,โ he said.
He added: โ We also need to plant avocado at Ksh50 per seedling from NYS Osasame in Malaba and Chamasiri TTI where five seedlings will see a farmer take home Ksh200,000 during maturity in about 8 months.
Oku said Amagoro Primary School will, on September 2025, host a big cultural event where Teso cultural leaders from within, Africa, and the diaspora will attend.
Oku announced that IsegereToto Hospital will from Wednesday conduct a 10-day free medical camp with eye check ups being their main focus co-sponsored by the County Government of Busia, adding that the Hospital will also support other ailments like malaria.
On the reported Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kaunya urged the County Government of Busia to put its team on high alert to contain several deaths that have been reported in DRC with Uganda already issuing high alert.
He also cited the recently reported Mpox disease which saw Kenya launch vaccination exercise in Malaba on September 3, urging residents to get vaccinated in the 10-day exercise, adding that the Hospital will also support other ailments like malaria.
