Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Kenya Police Service (KPS) in Langโ€™ata Sub-County have arrested Stephen Magero over a fraudulent gold scam targeting a Pakistani national.

The arrest took place at Sultan Suites, Ngong View Estate, after a foreign complainant reported being defrauded of USD 34,800 (approx. Ksh 4.5 million). Investigations revealed that Magero presented the victim with 500 grams of counterfeit gold and received full payment in cash.

When the gold underwent testing, it was confirmed to be fake, prompting the complainant to file a report at Karen Police Station. Detectives swiftly launched investigations that led to Mageroโ€™s arrest.

A search of the suspectโ€™s office uncovered ten bars of suspected fake gold, business cards under the name John Mbalaka, a MacBook Pro laptop, smelting machines, a mining certificate for Chawanda Minerals, a weighing machine, boxes of sand, and several documents linked to the fraudulent dealings.

Police confirmed that Magero remains in custody and will be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Detectives are also pursuing possible accomplices linked to the racket.
