Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has issued fresh demanded for the reopening of schools in Mandera County, insisting that the government must act urgently to safeguard learnersโ€™ right to education.

Speaking after chairing a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Gachagua accused the government of failing to provide security in the region, forcing several schools to shut down due to attacks linked to Jubaland militias.

In his statement, Gachagua demanded the immediate reopening of the institutions and called for security guarantees to ensure that children resume learning without fear.

โ€œThe learning institutions in Mandera closed due to invasion by the Jubaland militia and other terrorist groups must be re-opened immediately. Learners should be provided with security without fail.โ€ He said.

Gachagua further pressed for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to be granted full authority to protect Kenyaโ€™s sovereignty and restore normalcy in the region, warning that continued insecurity risks denying a whole generation access to education.

Earlier in the week Mandera senator raised alarm on presence of the Jubaland Forces ,saying that businesses, schools had been shut down due to fear.

โ€œJubaland forces are now inside Mandera town, literally taking over our community. This is a humiliation of our sovereignty,โ€ Roba said.
