Police in Juja have launched investigations after a woman was brutally stabbed to death by her husband following a domestic dispute. The shocking incident has sparked outrage over rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in Kenya.
The deceased, identified as Rose Muthoni, co-ran a business with her mother in Nyamakima, Nairobi. On Friday night, the two closed shop around 10:00 p.m., with Rose later arriving at her rented apartment in Juja just after midnight.
Her mother recalls receiving a call at 12:26 a.m., during which Rose mentioned she was at her apartment stairs before wishing her goodnight. โThat was the last time I spoke to my daughter,โ she said.
According to the familyโs nanny, a heated argument broke out between Rose and her husband shortly after she arrived home. The fight escalated at around 3:00 a.m., when her husband allegedly attacked her with two kitchen knives, stabbing her multiple times in front of their four-month-old baby.
The nanny, who tried to intervene, was also stabbed on the arm before escaping with the infant and raising the alarm.
Rose was later found lying in a pool of blood. Her body was transferred to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.
Police confirmed investigations are ongoing but had not announced any arrests as of Thursday. Authorities have urged residents to report early signs of domestic abuse before they escalate into violence.
