Police officers in Turkana have foiled a daring attempt by an armed suspect to abduct a 16-year-old girl in Kaapus village.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the assailant stormed a homestead armed with an AK-47 rifle and demanded to take away the teenager by force.

Alarmed locals quickly raised the alarm, prompting officers from Lorugum Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), to respond to the scene.

“The team successfully recovered an AK-47 firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge,” the NPS confirmed in a statement.

Despite the timely response, the armed suspect managed to escape. A manhunt has since been launched to track him down.

Police assured residents that security operations in the area have been intensified to ensure the suspect is apprehended and taken into custody.
