A criminal suspect believed to be among three men who attacked a police officer in Kitui Village within Manjengo slums, Nairobi and robbed him of personal belongings, including two mobile phones and a police beret while armed with knives, is facing charges of violent robbery.

Ronald Geoffrey Bunduma was charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 296 (2) of the Penal Code, where he is accused of robbing Corporal Francis Achieng of two mobile phones, a power bank, a charger, a torch and a mini camera, all valued at Sh34,500 on September 1, 2025.

Cpl. Achieng of the California police station in Kamukunji was walking home along the Nairobi River Bank at around 6 am after night duty when he was attacked by three men, allegedly including Bundu, who brandished knives and ordered him to surrender.

They then surrounded him and robbed him of the items.

He reported the matter at Shaurimoyo police station, and officers started investigations into the matter.

The prosecution claims that Bunduma and his accomplices threatened to use actual violence against Cpl. Ach, Ieng, but did not injure him.

The accused person denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephany Bett of Makadara law courts and was released on a Sh200,000, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000, 000.

The complainant had complied with the assailants during the robbery. Three days later, Cpl. Achieng received information that his colleagues had rounded up criminal suspects and had paraded them at the Majengo Groups, and he proceeded there at around 3 pm.

He was able to identify Bunduma among them, and the suspect was singlehandedly charged with the robbery.

The case will be mentioned on October 14, 2025, before the hearing starts on February 16, 2026.
