Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has insisted she was the one who ended her relationship with Mugithi star Samidoh, dismissing claims that she was dumped. The two, who share children, quietly went their separate ways in 2024. While neither had been forthcoming about the reasons behind their split, Nyamu now maintains that she left the musician because she refused to be controlled.

In a recent exchange with her followers online, the politician clapped back at suggestions that Samidoh had been the one to walk away.

โ€œAm I the one singing Karen Nyamuโ€™s name in all mugithis every weekend?โ€ she said. โ€œWhen a woman has money, the only thing she wants is to be a single mum. Faking happiness in marriage and spreading bitterness on social mediaโ€ฆ is not life.โ€

Nyamuโ€™s remarks were a direct response to Samidohโ€™s emotional track โ€œToxic Love,โ€ which she claims he dedicated to her. In the song, the musician sings of a painful and complicated romance he cannot seem to walk away from. The lyrics describe him as a โ€œvictim of loveโ€ torn between his heart and his intuition. He laments hearing that his lover values a luxurious life (a Range Rover) more than his art (a guitar), but ultimately confesses he must free himself from the โ€œprison of love.โ€

The ongoing public drama returned to the spotlight in July 2025, after a video of Samidoh passionately kissing his wife, Edday Nderitu, in the United States went viral. The public kiss inevitably drew Nyamuโ€™s name into the conversation, with one fan asking her directly: โ€œSenator did you see Samidoh kiss?โ€

Never one to shy away from a sharp retort, Nyamu shot back:

โ€œThen when he kisses me on Friday youโ€™ll start drama.โ€

Although she now insists the relationship is over, Nyamu has in the past defended polygamy, arguing that Samidoh had โ€œtoo much energy for just one woman.โ€ Their involvement attracted heavy criticism and eventually led Edday to permanently relocate to the United States with their children
