A section of locals in Kakamega has staged a peaceful protest against Senator Boni Khalwale.

The protest follows Khalwaleโs alleged recent remarks against Kakamega county woman representative Elsie Muhanda.
According to the locals, most of whom were women, the senatorโs remarks amounted to disrespect to the legislator and other women in the county.

Speaking to the press during the protest on the streets of Kakamega, the locals challenged the vocal senator to stop engaging in what they claimed was divisive and hateful politics against women.

They also demanded that he apologise to the legislator and her family.
She also asked the senator to focus on executing his mandate as the people’s representative in the Senate instead of attacking other women leaders.

Similar sentiments were shared by some of the men who had also taken part in the protests.
The elder also asked other leaders in Kakamega to come out and publicly condemn the veteran leader for his remarks against MP Muhanda.
Christine Juma, another protester, said the Kenyan Constitution has given rights to every woman, and that Khalwale should respect it by refraining from making unwarranted remarks about them.

Khalwale is alleged to have attacked the woman rep while attending a public function in Mumias over the weekend.
The attack is reported to have been the result of an ongoing supremacy battle between the senator and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya over the 2027 gubernatorial race.

Both Khalwale and Elsie are eyeing the governorship.
Neither Oparanya nor Elsie has publicly responded to the allegations.
Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that a supremacy battle between Governor Fernandes Barasa and Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera was threatening to split the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Both Barasa and Nabwera have claimed to be the party’s chairperson in Kakamega.
The party has held two elections in the county, all of which ended in a disagreement over the voting procedure. No official statement has been issued by ODM on the fate of the controversial election.
