A police officer was on Sunday arrested after reporting that he had lost his pistol in unclear circumstances at a bar in Kehancha town, Migori County.

The police corporal, who is attached to the Kuria DCI offices, had been in the company of a female reveller at a bar in the area when he realised his Duma pistol, which had 15 bullets in it, was missing.

The woman he was with was arrested at 9pm on Sunday following the incident.

A search was conducted, but the weapon was not found.

According to a police report, a stranger was seen interacting with the two individuals prior to her disappearance, and it is suspected that she stole the weapon.

The officer then reported the matter and was detained alongside the woman while the police conducted their investigation.

The police also said that a search of the area had been conducted, but was unsuccessful.

This latest incident comes just days after a police officer from the DCI Changamwe unit died from stab wounds sustained outside a bar in Migori County. The officer was reportedly involved in an altercation when the suspect attacked him with a sharp object, inflicting severe wounds.

The victim was initially taken to Kehancha Hospital before being transferred to Ombo Mission Hospital in Migori, where he sadly died from his injuries.

A suspect, Michael Masande, has since been apprehended by the authorities. Police have recovered a Maasai sword, believed to have been used in the attack, and preserved it as evidence. The officerโ€™s body has been taken to the mortuary at St Akidiva Mabera Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A thorough investigation into the incident has been launched by the police, including witness interviews and forensic analysis of the weapon. The motive for the attack remains unclear, but law enforcement has promised to take swift action to ensure that justice is served.

Local residents have expressed fear and sadness over the incident, calling for increased security around entertainment venues and late-night establishments.

This tragic killing has raised urgent concerns about the safety of law enforcement and the growing risk of nightlife violence in the region.
