Nairobi – A city-based lawyer has been killed.

The lawyer was shot dead by an unknown assailant on Tuesday, September 9, along Langata Road.

Citizen TV reported that the lawyer was attacked between Catholic University and Brookhouse at 7.30 pm.

Police reports indicate the victim, identified as Advocate Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, was driving home when he was gunned down by an assailant on a motorcycle.

According to witnesses, the gunman on a motorcycle pulled alongside Mbobuโ€™s vehicle, opened fire, and fled, throwing the area into chaos.

Traffic along the Galleria-Brookhouse stretch towards Ongata Rongai, particularly at the 1st Drift bypass, came to a standstill as motorists struggled to navigate the scene.

The deceased previously served as Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and also as a member of the Business Rent Premises Tribunal.

Kyalo was a distinguished legal practitioner and governance expert with over 29 years of experience as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

He was a Senior Partner at Kyalo & Associates Advocates, where he led his team in providing high-quality legal services in commercial litigation, arbitration, and corporate governance.

With extensive expertise in law, governance, arbitration, and mediation, Kyalo also served as a Board Member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) Kenya.

Kyalo also held the chairmanship roles at Quest Holdings Ltd and Core Capital Group Ltd, where he drove the strategic leadership and fostered sustainable growth in the private sector.

He was also a renowned author, with ‘The Law and Practice of Evidence in Kenya’ being one of the best-selling books on legal matters.

Kyalo was also a lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UON) School of Law and the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with Honours and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Georgetown University, complemented by his status as a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya (CPS-K) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb, London, Kenya Branch)

The horrifying video of the incident has left many Kenyans heartbroken, some suggesting the assailant is a professional hitman.
