Health officials conduct a vaccination drive in Narok County to protect children from preventable diseases.

Mothers in Narok South have been urged to ensure their infants receive all necessary vaccinations on time to protect them from preventable diseases.

Narok South Deputy County Commissioner, Charles Owino, emphasised the importance of timely immunisation, warning that avoiding vaccines puts childrenโ€™s health at serious risk.

โ€œVaccination boosts the immune system and should never be neglected,โ€ย Owino saidย โ€œWe are concerned by the high number of infants who have missed essential vaccinations.โ€

Speaking in theย Ololulunga area, he called on mothers to visit health facilities regularly and ensure their children receive the required medical care at the appropriate time.

His remarks were echoed byย Richard Lemein, a health officer atย Ololulunga Hospital, who reiterated the critical role of vaccines in child development.

โ€œIt is vital for newborns to be vaccinated according to the national health schedule,โ€ย Lemein said.ย โ€œMothers must work closely with elders to follow proper medical procedures.โ€

Community leader David Ntutu on his part observed that in many cases, important responsibilities are left solely to mothers, urging fellow elders to take an active role in child welfare.

โ€œToo often, fathers and community elders leave everything to the mothers,โ€ย Ntutu said.ย โ€œWe must be accountable and lead from the front to ensure our children are vaccinated.โ€

Health officials also expressed concern overย low vaccination ratesย in the region and called forย collective effortsย to address the issue.

โ€œWe need collaboration from all stakeholdersโ€”parents, elders, and community leadersโ€”to raise awareness and improve vaccine coverage,โ€ย Lemein added.

The officials are now working on strategies to engage more families and ensure that no child is left behind when it comes to essential healthcare.
