A police officer accused of throwing his junior colleague to their death from a balcony in Kitengela has been arrested.
Sergeant Abubakar Said, who is attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) at the EPZ Camp in Athi River, is reported to have thrown Constable Manaseh Ithiru from a fourth-floor balcony after finding him at the home of Irene Wavinya, a 27-year-old woman who, according to a police report seen by The Time Kenya, is his girlfriend.
A boda boda rider reported the incident at Kitengela Police Station. According to the police, he had dropped the junior officer at around 7pm at room 416 of Geoffrey Flats on Deliverance Road, where the woman lives as a tenant.
The rider was due to pick him up later.
When police officers and DCI personnel visited the apartment, they found the deceased officer lying in a pool of blood in the parking lot in a supine position.
โWhile the two were inside, another man, who turned out to be police officer Abubakar Said, attached to the EPZ Camp in Athi River and also the boyfriend of the same woman, visited her house. It is believed that a scuffle ensued between the two officers over the woman, whereby the deceased was overpowered and thrown from the balcony to his death,โ the police report read.
The crime scene was processed and documented by personnel from the station. They observed that the body had multiple injuries, including to the head.
โSgt Abubakar Said and Irene Wavinya Nzioka are being held in police custody and are assisting with the investigation,โ the report added.
The body has been moved to the mortuary at Shalom Hospital, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The Kitengela DCI is investigating the case ahead of the suspectsโ arraignment in court.
