The Kenyan community in Massachusetts has been gripped by panic following the mysterious disappearance of a 25-year-old Kenyan-American woman serving in the US Army.
Cynthia Muchugia went missing on Sunday, July 28 2025, causing deep concern among her family and friends. Law enforcement in Massachusetts have issued a missing person alert.
Ms Muchugia is believed to have driven off in her car, which was later found abandoned on Middlesex Street in Stow, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
There are approximately 3,100 Kenyan immigrants in Massachusetts, most of whom reside in Middlesex County.
According to reports, her loved ones became suspicious when she stopped responding to their calls and messages, which was out of character for her. After several unsuccessful attempts to contact her by phone, her family immediately informed the police of her disappearance and unknown whereabouts.
On August 5, the Stow Police Department issued a public statement appealing for help to locate the missing soldier.
The department confirmed that Cynthia had been officially reported missing on July 28, emphasising that her family and friends were โdeeply concerned for her well-beingโโ.
โThe Stow Police Department urgently requests the publicโs assistance in locating 25-year-old Cynthia Muchugia, who was reported missing on Monday, 28 July 2025,โ the statement read in part.
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the case and are asking anyone who may have seen Cynthia or who has information about her whereabouts to come forward immediately.
As of now, no foul play has been confirmed, but the unusual circumstances of her disappearance and the location of her car have heightened the urgency of the investigation.
Police did not disclose what was found inside the car, nor did they offer details about her last known movements prior to July 28.
