Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced disciplinary action against Chief Inspector Daniel Muchiri, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ntimaru Police Station, after he reportedly attended a high-level security forum while intoxicated.

Muchiri was spotted inebriated during the Jukwaa La Usalama forum held in Migori on Thursday, September 11, prompting immediate concern from Murkomen.

Speaking at a subsequent event in Kisii on Friday, September 12, Murkomen described the incident as unacceptable and suggested the officer may be facing underlying health challenges.

The CS stated that the officer is currently undergoing medical and psychological evaluation to determine whether the behaviour stems from mental health issues or indiscipline.

If diagnosed with a mental health condition, rehabilitation and reassignment will follow.

However, if found to be a case of misconduct, disciplinary procedures will be enforced by the National Police Service.

Murkomen emphasised that while the service takes a compassionate approach to wellness, intoxication on duty remains intolerable.
