The fastest man alive sent a pointed message to Wayne Pinnock, Jaydon Hibbert, Roje Stona, and Rajindra Campbell following their switch of allegiance.
The worldโs fastest man, Usain Bolt, has sent a bold message to Roje Stona (discus), Rajindra Campbell (shot put), and Wayne Pinnock (long jump), and triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert, following the news that they have switched their allegiance to Turkey.
The eight-time Olympic champion has made his stance clear, noting that the country should always come first, but pointed out that they are at liberty to make their own decisions.
Usain Bolt pointed out that despite the challenges he faced during his time as an athlete, he never thought of representing another country.
The 11-time world champion, in an interview with the Jamaica Observer, noted that he will forever be proud to be a Jamaican.
โEverybody knows I rep Jamaica through and through, and at no point in my career have I even thought about running for any other country,โ Usain Bolt said.
โHowever, each athlete has to do what they think is best for them and their family.โ
Usain Boltโs remarks underscore a critical issue within the sport, one that poses serious risks for nations such as Jamaica, abundant in talent yet constrained by limited resources.
Stepping aside from the politics of Jamaican athletes, Usain Bolt has thrown his support behind World Athleticsโ new Ultimate Championship, set for Budapest next year.
He was also named the eventโs โUltimate Legend,โ with champions from the Olympics, World Championships, and Diamond League set to clash in a single grand finale.
โIโm always happy and willing to do my best to highlight the progress of athletics and bring awareness to fans. Iโm sure the athletes and fans will enjoy the shorter version of constant high-level competition,โ Usain Bolt added.
Usain Bolt is also at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, and he revealed that he is excited to watch athletes compete.
โThis is my first Championship as a fan, so Iโm just here to cheer on the team and wish all the athletes all the best,โ said Usain Bolt.
The World Athletics Championships are scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 13 at the Japan National Stadium.
