Standard Chartered Bank Kenya has begun the process of verifying details of 629 former employees set to benefit from a multibillion-shilling pension payout, after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this month closed the final avenue of appeal for the bank.
On September 8, Standard Chartered said it is committed to meeting the pension obligations. โWe have initiated a structured process to execute the judgement in accordance with the legal requirements and are committed to maintaining open communication with affected pensioners,โ the bank said.
It also sought to calm market concerns, that it is โadequately capitalised to meet the anticipated obligations.โ
The Supreme Court ruling of September 5, 2025, closed the final avenue of appeal for the bank, confirming RBATโs authority in pension disputes and ending a two-decade legal battle. The verification exercise now clears the path for long-delayed payments to be disbursed.
