Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Keeps Medal Hopes Alive With Semis Qualification as Julien Alfred Fires Warning in Tokyo

Jamaican legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce easily made it to the semi-final of the 100m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo with Julien Alfred making a statement run.

Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce kept her hopes of exiting the stage with a medal alive when she sealed a place in the semi-final of the 100m at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday.

Running in Heat 7, and alongside another veteran Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith, Fraser-Pryce got off the blocks well and maintained her pace, overtaking all but the African record holder, before slowing down to claim second place.

Ta Lou-Smith won the race in 11.05 seconds with Fraser-Pryce clocking 11.09 for second place as Liranyi Alonso of Spain finished in third place to claim the final automatic qualification place.

This came after Julien Alfred had fired a warning to her rivals when she effortlessly sealed her place in the semi-final.

Alfred, having watched world leader Melissa Jefferson-Wooden make it through to the semis with a commanding run in a time of 10.99 seconds, Alfred did the same as she claimed a win in Heat 4 with a time of 10.93 seconds, the fastest in all the seven heats.

The Olympics 100m champion won the race by a massive gap with Switzerlandโ€™s Salome Kora in second place and Canadian Audrey Leduc in third place to complete the automatic qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Great Britainโ€™s Daryll Neita also made it to the semis after winning Heat 5 following a great run in the final 50m of the race to fend off the challenge of American Twanisha โ€˜Tee Teeโ€™ Terry.

Neita claimed victory after clocking 10.94 seconds with Terry second with 11.06 seconds while Liberian Thelma Davies clinched the final automatic qualification slot after clocking 11.12 seconds.

In Heat 6, Italian Zaynab Dosso clocked 11.10 seconds to claim the win ahead of Britainโ€™s Amy Hunt, whose late surge earned her second place in 11.12 seconds, with American Kayla While claiming the final semi-final ticket in a time of 11.16 seconds.
