President William Ruto has announced that Harambee Stars stand to own affordable housing units if they excel in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), .

Speaking on Monday at Pullman Hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi, after meeting the squad, the President hailed their historic performance and unveiled generous incentives to spur them on in the upcoming matches. He confirmed that each member of the delegation has already received KSh1 million following their recent victory over Morocco. He also promised KSh2.5 million for every player if the team defeats Zambia in their next match on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Beyond the cash rewards, the government has pledged affordable housing units to the players. If Harambee Stars progress past the quarter-finals, each player will receive KSh1 million and a two-bedroom house.

Should they advance beyond the semi-finals, the team will secure an additional KSh1 million each and a three-bedroom house in a location of their choice.

Reflecting on Kenyaโ€™s bid to host CHAN, President William Ruto commented on the setbacks the country has faced in previous bids. He noted that despite the skepticism, Kenya not only secured the rights to host the tournament but also saw a record achievement by the national team.

โ€œWhen I asked Ababu Namwamba, then the Sports Minister, to pursue hosting CHAN, many doubted Kenyaโ€™s chances,โ€ Ruto said. โ€œWe tried in 1996 and again in 2018, but we didnโ€™t succeed. Still, I believed it was possible.โ€

โ€œThere are people who do not believe, but we believe Kenya can. We have not only hosted CHAN but are also witnessing a remarkable moment from our boys,โ€ he added.

The President credited unity for the teamโ€™s success and urged Kenyans to hold on to faith while rejecting negativity.

โ€œYou are making our nation very proud,โ€ he said. โ€œIf we believe in ourselves and refuse to let negativity, hate, or ethnicity divide us, Kenya will become the great country we have always envisioned.โ€

Ruto said he is confident in Harambee Starsโ€™ prospects for victory, stating that Kenya has everything it needs to win.

โ€œWe play in the League of Champions. The government and the people of Kenya stand behind you, praying that this time we can win CHAN because it is within close reach,โ€ he declared.

Kenya sits at the top of Group A in the ongoing championships with seven points from three matches and is the sole unbeaten team in the group.

The Harambee Stars tightened their grip with a recent win against Morocco and now have a make-or-break final group-phase match against Zambia on Sunday.
