Kenya has officially been declared the new epicentre of a global peace movement following a historic summit that brought together faith leaders, international dignitaries, and peace advocates to chart a transformative vision for Africa and the world.
The gathering, hailed as a turning point in global peacebuilding, highlighted Kenyaโs growing influence as a hub for reconciliation, dialogue, and unity.
Speaking at the summit, Prof. Cletus Bassey emphasised that Africa is undergoing a profound shiftโdriven not by politics or military power, but by faith-based leadership.
โAfrican continent where we are seeing a shift, not political, not military, but from a very standpoint of the church and giving an unveiling event that is telling us about a movement that is catching up from Kenya throughout Africa to the nations of the world,โ Bassey told delegates.
The event was graced by Prof. Madhu Krishnan of India, a United Nationsโrecognised global citizen, whose decades of work have focused on producing peacebuilders who go on to become nation-builders.
โOur purpose of coming here was to begin to unfold this new movement of speaking peace, teaching peace, and practising peace,โ Dr. Krishnan said.
He added, โOur African continent can begin to experience peace. And the peace that comes with genuineness, truthfulness, justice, fairness, and equity.โ
Krishnan noted that true peace must be rooted in justice, fairness, truth, and equity, adding that Kenyaโs role in this initiative could set a new standard for global reconciliation.
Reflecting on wars in Ukraine, Russia, Israel, and Palestine, he said: โOur main goal and main focus for the last 40 years has been producing peace builders and ultimately a transformed community of peace-loving, peace-living and peace-practising community so that our transformed people, those who are transformed through our peace ambassadors, become nation builders.”
So far, 69 prime ministers have signed peace agreements and memorandums of understanding under the initiative, with Kenya nearing the final stages of formalising its own commitment.
The movement is also branching into sports diplomacy, with Nairobi set to host a flagshipย Sports for Peace program in collaboration with the Kenyan government.
The event will unite athletes and communities from across the globe, using sports as a platform to advance the peace agenda.
This milestone positions Kenya as not only a continental leader but also a global hub for peacebuilding, a role that is expected to significantly enhance its international standing in the years ahead.
