Thousands of Marigoini and Mukuruย  residents in Nairobi County are set to benefit from the second phase of affordable housing allocation.

According to the Government, the exercise is set to begin in the next month of October, with 4,500 units ready for allocation.

Speaking during a verification exercise on Monday within the targeted areas, Ruth Wekesa, an official from the Affordable Housing Board,revealed that, the beneficiaries include, residents who missed out on the initial allocation in Mukuru back in May this year.

According to Ruth Wekesa, the board will verify data for Marigoini residents over the next three days to identify those who have not yet received houses.

Wekesa added that the construction of one , two , and three-bedroom units in Mukuru, Nairobi County, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

She also said that, those who purchase the units will be officially handed their homes by the president early next year.

Meanwhile, Nairobi South Ward Representative(MCA) Waithera Chege has called on residents to come forward and register for the government housing program.

She praised the initiative, saying it has the potential to save lives in Mariguini, where frequent fire outbreaks have claimed many lives in the densely populated informal settlement.

Residents of Mariguini who participated in the data verification exercise also expressed confidence that their lives will improve once they receive the promised homes.

This comes at a time when Many residents in the informal settlements continue to endure harsh living conditions, and are hopeful that the affordable housing program will bring lasting change.
