The government has made significant strides in revitalizing key sectors of the economy including agriculture under the BETA agenda.

Addressing the press on Monday, 15th September 2025 at Harambee House Annex in Nairobi, the Government spokesperson Dr.Isaac Mwaura revealed that, the move has seen the price of unga (maize flour)ย  drop by 34%, improving food affordability for households.

He noted that, over 7 million farmers have been registered in a digital database, and 21 million bags of fertilizer have been distributed nationwide.

โ€œThese efforts have led to substantial income increases for farmers, with coffee earnings rising by 52%, tea by 40%, and sugar by 76%. There has also been increased support for farmers of edible oils, rice, nuts, cotton and pyrethrum, helping reduce the overall cost of household spending and boosting agricultural productivity,โ€ Dr.Mwaura said.

The Government Spokesperson explained that, through the formalization of 2.25 million small businesses and the upgrading of 31 Constituency Industrial Development Centres (CIDCs), the government has created over 9,000 jobs.Youth entrepreneurship has been supported through the establishment of cold storage facilities, incubation hubs and county trade fairs that have expanded market access for young innovators and small-scale traders.

โ€œThese initiatives reflect the governmentโ€™s focus on job creation and empowering the informal and micro-enterprise sectors,โ€ Mwaura stated.

In the housing sector, the government is currently constructing 161,911 housing unitsโ€”an exponential increase from 8,872 in 2022.

Mwaura highlighted that, this massive scale-up has created over 330,000 jobs in the construction and Jua Kali (informal) sectors.

Additionally, Kes. 4.4 billion has been ring-fenced to support Jua Kali artisans, and over 1,000 of them have been certified to supply building materials.

โ€œTo boost home ownership, 3,855 new mortgages have been issued at affordable interest rates, ensuring more Kenyans can purchase homes while others earn a living through the project,โ€ He said.

Furthermore, Dr. Mwaura stated that, enrollment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions has grown significantly, rising from 340,713 to 718,000 students.

The mining sector has also seen structural growth, with three new laboratories established to decentralize services and improve technical capacity.

โ€œMore artisan mining cooperatives have been registered, supporting small-scale miners and fostering localized economic development,โ€ Dr. Mwaura added.
