A 22–year–old man who has been allegedly dating his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter since November 2024 is facing charges of defiling her.

Patrick Maina was charged with defiling WK on diverse dates between November 2024 and August 2025 at Mukuru Kaiyaba slums in Starehe Sub County within Nairobi in contravention of section 8 (1) as read with section 8 (3) of the sexual offences (SO) Act of 2006.

Maina was also charged with intentionally committing an indecent act with the minor contrary to section 11 (1) of the SO Act.

He is accused of intentionally and unlawfully touching the minor’s private parts on different occasions during the period they were dating before he was reported to the area chief, who arrested and handed him to the police.

Maina denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephany Bett of the Makadara law courts and claimed that it is his friend who has been dating the minor.

He told the court that he has a wife and two children and never slept out during the days he claimed the minor went sleeping around, and added that he knew one of his friends who had been sleeping with the child.

The minor also admitted, during investigations by the police, that she once slept with a different man after her mother kicked her out of home upon discovering she was still dating the accused person and sleeping with him.

Police investigations uncovered how the minor would visit Maina who would later take her to his brother’s house in the neighbourhood and defile her.

A number of the suspect and the victim’s mother’s neighbours who witnessed Maina sneak the minor into the house were interviewed by and confirmed this during the police investigations.

The suspect was released on a bond of Sh300, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh150, 000. The case will be mentioned on October 29, 2025 before hearing starts on February 23, 2026.
