Police in the Gatongโora area of Ruiru have seized 138 cartons of counterfeit liquor in an operation driven by intelligence reports.
The liquor, packed in assorted brands, was found inside a premises where it was being illegally distilled.
Investigations revealed that the counterfeiters were using bottles from well-known alcohol manufacturers to pass off the fake products as genuine.
Authorities believe the alcohol was being sold to unsuspecting consumers, raising serious health concerns due to the unregulated and potentially toxic nature of the contents.
One suspect was arrested during the raid and is expected to be arraigned in court.
The owner of the premises is still at large, but police efforts to track them are ongoing. The seized liquor has been taken to the government chemist for further analysis to determine its contents and potential risks to public health.
Ruiru Deputy County Commissioner Julius Too, who addressed journalists, lauded the local community for volunteering crucial information that led to the successful raid.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid consuming unverified alcoholic beverages, warning that counterfeit liquor poses significant health dangers.
