Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga is once again trending—this time not for his exploits on the pitch, but for a fiery exchange with a fan that has lit up social media.

The Kilimani Project DebateOlunga, popularly known as The Engineer, recently posted a photo of himself at a construction site in Nairobi’s upscale Kilimani area. Wearing a blue safety helmet, a black t-shirt, and grey trousers, he stood in front of a towering multi-storey building still under construction. The structure, wrapped in scaffolding and green netting, appeared to be in its final stages, with exposed brickwork and unpainted walls hinting at progress.

He captioned the post: “Blessed Sunday. Tupo site, kata simu. Like Prince Indah said, hatuna midomo mingi, ni kazi tu.” The message drew a flood of congratulatory remarks from fans, but it also sparked skepticism.

One user, Ke Mike, downplayed the suggestion that Olunga owned the property, commenting: “Najua unataka tufikirie ni yako… unfortunately hatuezi.”

Olunga’s clapback was swift and savage: “Utafikiria aje na hauna akili?”

The blunt retort immediately went viral, with many netizens applauding his unapologetic response, while others weighed in on the celebrity culture of flaunting wealth.

He began at Liberty Sports Academy, where his 32 goals in 2012 earned his team promotion. He later had spells with Tusker FC and Thika United before joining Gor Mahia in 2015, helping the club clinch an unbeaten league title with 19 goals to his name.
