The Kenyan star hoped to bounce back with a medal, but it seems his campaign in Tokyo has ended in heartbreak.

Yego, who won the 2015 world title, tweaked his ankle on his second attempt and tried to make his third throw despite the injury, but he couldnโ€™t. Overcome with emotion, he collapsed to the floor.

Still, he finished sixth with a throw of 85.54. Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott won gold with an 88.16 throw ahead of Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who registered 87.38 and USA’s Curtis Thompson (86.67).

The veteran failed to qualify for the final in 2023 in Budapest.

The Olympic silver medalist has been competing at the highest level for over a decade but has struggled to keep up with the best since the Rio Olympics.
