MP Wamuchomba denies being Ruto’s mole in opposition

Gathoni Wamuchomba, the MP for Githunguri, has denied claims that she betrayed her political allies after attending the burial of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s father.

The MP faced criticism after reports emerged that Ichung’wah had suggested, during the burial, that she was leaking information to the other political side. In a long statement shared on her official social media account on Thursday, September 18, 2025, Wamuchomba dismissed the claims as false and a form of political bullying.

She said she only attended the burial to stand with Ichung’wah’s elder sister, whom she described as a long-time friend and supporter.

“Extending my condolences to the Ichung’wahs after Mzee’s death has cost me my peace and dignity,” she wrote. “I stood with my long-time friend and supporter, who happens to be Hon Ichung’wah’s elder sister, and gave her my sympathies.”

Wamuchomba challenged those accusing her to provide evidence of the betrayal. She said that no clip had been produced to support the claims, though some people had already apologised to her.

“I have been branded a traitor and a betrayer out of my sincere act of mercy for something I didn’t say or do,” she added.

The MP said she has paid a heavy price in politics for defending justice and fairness. She cited her rejection of controversial bills in Parliament, her support for victims of police brutality, and her efforts to fight for women’s and farmers’ rights. She reminded Kenyans that in the past she had even been barred from Parliament and denied her salary for standing up for women.

Wamuchomba accused her critics of trying to silence her with false claims.

“I take this as a signal of political bullying and a way of silencing me. But I refuse to surrender my dreams to negative noises,” she said.

She stressed that she will not join tribal politics or support leaders she does not believe in.

“I will never praise a failed system, and neither will I cheer selfish political patrons who behave like small gods. Their money and influence is all vanity,” she wrote.

Wamuchomba concluded her statement by affirming her resolve to continue her work in Parliament.

“I will continue to write history in this country. I am the woman for the job.”
