The battle for the Kimilili parliamentary seat in 2027 has taken a sharper political turn after Hon. Masinde Nguti reaffirmed his candidacy and unveiled a detailed five-point agenda aimed at reshaping the constituencyโ€™s future.

Nguti, who first declared his interest in the seat two years ago, is now stepping up his campaign activities under the banner Etala Yefwe (Our Light).

His political ideology, branded Sisiafusie, seeks to eradicate poverty, illiteracy, disease, and what he calls sisilima, while โ€œrestoring hope in an age of cynicism.โ€

His development blueprint promises free solar gadgets, education airlift scholarships, improved healthcare services, youth and women empowerment, and cottage industrial growth.

Political observers say Ngutiโ€™s agenda places him directly in competition with established political figures in Bungoma County, where the Kimilili seat has long been a hotbed of shifting alliances and fierce contests. His emphasis on renewable energy and international education scholarships is being viewed as an attempt to capture the youth vote, a decisive bloc in the region.

โ€œNguti is positioning himself as a reformist candidate with a grassroots agenda,โ€ said a Bungoma-based political analyst. โ€œThe question will be whether he can translate that vision into a strong enough coalition to unseat entrenched interests.โ€

By launching his agenda early, Nguti appears to be setting the stage for a drawn-out campaign, giving him time to mobilize support and sharpen his political messaging. His slogan Etala Yefwe has already become a rallying call among some of his supporters, who see him as an alternative voice to the traditional political order.

With more aspirants expected to declare their intentions in the coming months, the Kimilili race is shaping up to be one of the contests to watch in Western Kenya as the 2027 elections approach.
