A dramatic shooting incident at Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday, September 16, left five people nursing injuries.
Judiciary Spokesperson Paul Ndemo said a firearm belonging to a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer accidentally went off during the hearing of a criminal case at the High Court.
The stray bullet injured the officer himself, a Kenya Prisons officer, and three civilians. They were all rushed to Bungoma Referral Hospital for treatment.
Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo confirmed that all the five victims were in hospital undergoing medical care and are in stable condition.
He reassured the public that there was no cause for panic, emphasizing that court officials and members of the public remained safe.
โAll court officials as well as members of the public at the Court are safe and there is therefore no need for alarm,โ his statement read in part.
Ndemo added that the county security team visited the court and assessed the situation.
