The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has moved against 107 facilities across the country for violating noise pollution rules, citing a surge in public complaints and invoking the 2009 Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Regulations.
In a public notice issued September 22, 2025, the regulator said the action takes effect immediately, giving listed facilities seven days to obtain the necessary licenses or face closure.
โThis move follows persistent concerns over excessive noise disrupting communities, especially in urban areas such as Nairobi and Mombasa, where noise-related complaints have risen by 15% over the past year,โ NEMA said.
Among the targeted facilities are popular entertainment spots such as Jambo Lounge, Cool Breeze Bar in Ruiru, Havana Lounge along Northern Bypass, and Quiver Lounge in Eastlands.
Hotels and eateries have also been flagged, including Clarion Hotel in Westlands and Eclipse Lounge at Tatu City, Kiambu.
The crackdown comes as Kenya prepares for World Cleanup Day 2025, with NEMA also rolling out campaigns against textile waste and other environmental hazards.
Operators have been directed to submit documentation to NEMAโs headquarters in Nairobi within the stipulated timeframe.
Failure to do so, the notice warned, will lead to enforcement measures, including closure of premises.
For inquiries, NEMA provided contact information via P.O. Box 67839-00200, Nairobi, or through email at .
