Nairobi’s Charter Hall at City Hall was the place to be on Sunday, September 21, as the search for Kenya’s next superstar came to an exciting conclusion.

The inaugural Next Superstar Kenya competition, hosted by Amina Abdi and Eddy Butita and powered by StarTimes, started at 7:30 pm with guests showcasing their best fashion.

The crown was awarded to a young gospel singer from Donholm, Nairobi, who also works as a barber.

When his name was announced, he collapsed in disbelief on stage.

Jose, whose full name is Joseph Japheth, delivered a standout performance during the competition.

His exceptional vocals and captivating stage presence, paired with a dynamic dance crew, earned him a standing ovation from fans and the judges, King Kaka, Size 8, and Motif Di Don.

After weeks of intense eliminations, Jose walked away with the grand prize of KSh 1 million.

His victory capped off a 14-week journey that began in May 2025, with thousands of hopefuls auditioning across Kenya.

Over the course of the competition, 18 contestants were reduced to six finalists who performed at the live grand finale, broadcast on Rembo TV, Rembo Plus, and the StarTimes ON app.

Jose triumphed over finalists Brenda Morii (Nyamori Brendah), Albert Okumu, Andy Saharan, Jambia (Brian Koome), and Rennic (Rennick Nzalwa).

Rennic took home a brand-new motorbike as the first runner-up, while Jambia claimed the second runner-up prize: rare jewellery worth KSh 150,000.

Collins Okoth, Director of Strategy and Planning at the Kenya Film Commission and Chief Guest at the finale, praised the competition for empowering youth through the creative industry.
