Tense scenes unfolded at a private lounge in Kitale when a group of goons reportedly allied to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangโ€™ula attempted to rough up a local politician known for openly criticizing their party leader.

Witnesses said the confrontation escalated quickly, with the attackers charging at the outspoken politician in what appeared to be a planned assault.

Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, who was at the scene, drew his firearm in a dramatic attempt to protect the targeted politician. The move startled the group, forcing them to retreat.

The incident triggered panic among patrons at the lounge, with some scampering for safety before calm was eventually restored.

The violent clash has reignited debate over the growing wave of political intolerance in Trans Nzoia County, where rival camps have frequently clashed ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Authorities are yet to issue a statement on the matter or confirm whether any arrests were made.
