The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its detailed weekly weather forecast, predicting varying weather patterns across the country from Tuesday, August 5, to Saturday, August 9, 2025.

The report outlines continued rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms, and fluctuating temperature ranges in different regions, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions where needed.

According to the department, parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, and sections of the Rift Valley will continue to receive intermittent rain during the forecast period. The weatherman noted that the rains will be experienced both during the day and at night in some counties.

Counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and night. In these counties, temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 7°C to highs of 30°C.

In Turkana and Samburu, day and night showers are forecasted to persist throughout the week. These regions will experience higher temperatures, with maximums reaching 35°C and minimums dropping to around 8°C.

The Kenya Met Department has also issued a warning for strong southerly to south-easterly winds across parts of the Coast, Southeastern Lowlands, North Eastern, and North Western Kenya. Wind speeds in these areas are projected to exceed 25 knots, potentially disrupting marine activities and causing blowing dust in arid zones.

Counties in the Central Highlands including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, as well as Nairobi County, will experience a mix of weather conditions throughout the forecast period. Residents can expect sunny intervals in the mornings, afternoon showers, and cloudy nights. The forecast indicates that temperatures will range from a minimum of 6°C to a maximum of 27°C.

In the Southeastern Lowlands—namely Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta—residents are likely to experience dry and sunny conditions during the day coupled with cloudy skies at night. The maximum temperatures in this zone are expected to reach 30°C, while night-time lows will drop to around 9°C.

The forecast also indicates generally dry and sunny conditions in the Coastal strip, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and Tana River counties. These areas are expected to experience high daytime temperatures of up to 30°C and milder night-time conditions with minimum temperatures of about 20°C. Despite the dry forecast, residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially in light of the strong winds predicted for the region.

Counties in Northern Kenya—including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—are forecasted to continue experiencing hot and dry conditions. These regions will have sunny intervals during the day and cloudy skies at night, with temperatures peaking at 35°C and minimums expected to fall to around 14°C.

Kenya Met has urged Kenyans, especially those living in areas expecting rain and strong winds, to take necessary precautions. Farmers are encouraged to plan their agricultural activities accordingly, while residents in flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert and follow updates from local authorities.

Fisherfolk and maritime operators along the coast and in Lake Victoria have also been cautioned about the strong winds and are advised to observe safety protocols while out at sea.

The department concluded its forecast by reaffirming its commitment to providing timely and accurate weather information to help safeguard lives and livelihoods across the country.
