Tanzania is mourning the brutal killing of kidnapped promising law student Shyrose Mahande Mabula.

The 21-year-old was a first-year law student at Mzumbe University in Mbeya.

Shyrose was kidnapped on Saturday, 13 September 2025, with her captors placing a horror call to her father demanding a ransom of 200 million Tanzanian shillings, which is the equivalent of about 10 million Kenyan shillings.

Additionally, the caller disclosed that they were heading to Tabora leaving him broken to pieces.

Thereafter, it didn’t take long before the kidnappers sent him a heartwrenching video of his daughter being tortured.

Cornered, her father gathered some money in haste and wired it to the captors hoping they would go slow on harming her.

Despite sending what he had collected, the kidnappers continued tormenting the young soul.

“Basi ilinipelekea kuwapatia kiasi kidogo cha pesa angalau mtoto apunguze maumivu” asserted her father in part.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the police in Mbeya received a call of distress from a good Samaritan about a fire gutting a store.

After the fire was extinguished, the police discovered a burnt body, with the autopsy disclosing that it belonged to Shyrose.

Shyrose’s father, who is a renowned heart surgeon and has also tried his hand at politics, is yet to accept that his daughter’s life was cut short.

For a man who has spent years saving people’s lives and a trailblazer, the old man’s heart continues to bleed, with the rest of his countrymen not only empathizing with him but also calling for the arrest of the perpetrators.

Elsewhere in Kenya, police foiled a kidnapping incident in Ruaka after arresting five suspects who had already received a ransom of 68k as part of the 500k demand for the safe return of a woman’s boyfriend.
