Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Waithira

Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mwangi Waithira has promised to invite the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe claims of fake payments to projects in his ward.

The MCA who wrote a resignation letter to Speaker Ken Ngondi and the ruling United Democratic Alliance(UDA) has also dismissed claims that his resignation was necessitated by plans to travel to the United States.

In his resignation letter, the MCA highlighted concerns of projects that are reportedly complete and contractors paid in full, despite non-existence of such development on the ground.

The projects include grading, gravelling and drainage improvement of Mbuta Road, Kirogo Road at a cost of ksh. 4,955,865 under contract ref: NCC/WDF/T/044/2018-2019, grading, gravelling and drainage improvement of Nduruma Road, Chiro road.

Other projects are Mwafrika range, PCEA, Achievers, riflo I&1I, Stima ya Maendeleo road, Main road and stendo road at a cost of 12,941,754 under the contract ref: NCC/WDP/T/035/2019-2020.

Speaking to the media on Friday, the MCA said he is dismayed by the fact that no efforts have been taken by Sakajaโ€™s administration despite numerous efforts from him.

Most of the projects were scheduled to take place between 2018 and 2020 and according to him,the county made the alleged dubious payments this year.

โ€œ Some of the road projects were to start in 2018 to 2020 but the residents have never seen a grader or tractor doing anything,โ€ he said.

His decision now is to involve investigative agencies to probe the matter which he says must be addressed at all costs.

โ€œ I am now going to write to the EACC and the DCI and I am ready to provide the needed evidence,โ€ he said.

Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu who is also the UDA chairperson in Nairobi confirmed that he has officially received the resignation letter from Waithira.

Kiragu said that the UDA party is taking the matter seriously and will find a way of resolving the matter.

โ€œI have received the letter as the UDA chairman in Nairobi and I am talking to him together with our party leaders,โ€ he said

Kiragu said the Githurai case is an eye opener that could ultimately determine the working relationship between the assembly and the Governor.

He also added that the impeachment against the governor remains alive pending the implementation of critical issues agreed.

โ€œAs you know we have a live motion where we mentioned a few issues so as a county we will keep assessing the progress,โ€™

The resignation letter is yet to be officially received by speaker Ken Ngondi who is also poised to hold a meeting with the MCA.
